Sponsorship
Kaloko Trust supports the training of local villagers as Beekeepers in Luansobe, Zambia by running a Beekeeping Sponsorship Scheme.

Sponsors give a monthly donation of £10 which is put towards the cost of running the training scheme. In return they receive an annual report on the Beekeepers' progress, and a pot of honey, as well as the knowledge that their money is genuinely helping to improve people's lives.

To be trained as a Beekeeper is highly beneficial to the rural population - it means that they have a sustainable source of income as well as an extra food source. Beekeeping has no detrimental impact on the environment, unlike traditional income-generating activities such as unregulated charcoal production. In this way Kaloko is also working to protect the envrionment.

YES I WANT TO SPONSOR
Simply contact us by email, post or telephone to let us know of your interest. We will then send you details of the scheme and a standing order form.

The Beekeeping Course
The course is 10-day residential and run at Kaloko Trust Zambia's Training Centre. Use is made of the facilities at our school - Luansobe Upper Basic School - during the school holidays so that trainees have access to accommodation and cooking facilities.

Trainees are selected from their villages by their Village Development Committees, using guidelines set out by Kaloko. We particularly advocate the training of women, orphans and vulnerable children, young people who have not been able to progress to further education and families vulnerable due to HIV/AIDS.

At the end of the training course graduates are provided with hives and equipment to set them up on their way to harvesting honey.

Courses are usually run twice a year, in April and August. Honey harvesting occurs usually in the months of June and November.
